Bryson Yoga!

The next session of Yoga classes in Bryson City will begin on Thursday, March 1.

This will be a 4 week session and will meet each week at 5:30 pm at West Elementary School on Hwy. 74. (in the Little Theatre room). The cost is $30.00 for the entire session, payable on the first night of class. (providing there is an 8 student minimum)

Please bring a yoga mat or large towel and wear comfortable clothing that allows movement.

Update to Aces mission statement

In order to reflect the current and future realities of the Swain Aces group, I've updated the mission statement on the website in order to be inclusive of students other than just homeschoolers. As our children continue to grow, our ACEs families will continue to take advantage of the increase in educational options (Charter and private schools, joint enrollments, etc...) in the area. My hope is that Aces will likewise evolve over time, continuing to provide meaningful and worthwhile enrichment to the children of Swain County and surrounding areas.

The new wording is below. Please let me know your thoughts or any suggestions for changes and improvements

Swain County ACEs (Another Choice for Education) is a group consisting of home, private, charter and public school children aged 4th grade and up (with younger sibs welcome). ACEs aims to provide educational enrichment and socialization in fun and interesting ways. We believe that differences (race, religion, upbringing, style of education, political belief, etc...) should be honored and respected.

'The Music Man' at WCU

Broadway star and legend, Terrence Mann, is making his directorial debut at WCU with 'The Music Man' .

A friend and apprentice of Mann's, Jared Bradshaw, will guest-star as Harold Hill, the leading character and con man of the musical. Bradshaw is currently performing in the New York City production of 'Forbidden Broadway'.

The cast features WCU students, faculty and staff.

Showtimes are:

• 7:30p.m. on February 22-24
• 3:00p.m. on Feb. 25th.

Performances will be in the Fine and Performing Arts Center of WCU.

Tickets are on sale now at $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, and $5 for students & groups of 20 or more.

Being as several of the Aces families have websites, I've added a 'Member's Websites' section in the sidebar of the Swain Aces websites. Right now it has links to our Have School Will Travel website, and the Nitz's NitzIt! website (which is a very well done antiques information website).

Reminder: Concert at Swain Arts Center

Sunday, February 11 at 2:30 pm - Swain Arts Center

Guitarist and songwriter, Tom Fisch, of Flat Rock will perform a concert of folk and country music from several genres on Sunday, February 11, at 2:30 pm at Swain County Center for the Arts in Bryson City, NC. Immediately following the concert, there will be a reception for artist John Speier of Bryson City, whose artwork in a variety of media, subjects and styles will be on display in the lobby of the Arts Center through the end of March.

There are samples of his music on the website if you are interested in a preview.

Reminder: Forums on Climate Change

Three 1-hour talks on Climate Change, hosted by the Asheville Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, will be held at the Folk Art Center Auditorium; 3:00 to 4:00 PM. The talks are free and open to the public.
